As a family photographer I always ask the parents what sort of photos they are after. More often than not they just want photos of the children or babies. I completely understand as children are always changing and capturing their childhood is really important. I also hate having my photo taken and feel pretty self conscious.
I suspect if I asked the child what photo they wanted then the answer would be a photo of everyone together. Children won’t notice the few extra pounds someone is carrying, or the bad hair day, or the double chin. Children will see the parent that they love with them in the photo. They will also love to look back on the photos, and perhaps laugh at the fashion of the day.
So go on, get in front of the camera, pretend to enjoy it, and you never know – you might end up loving the photos, your kids certainly will.
