I had the privilege of photographing a newborn baby last week.
This little girl was just two weeks old, but even at such a young age she was remarkably alert. I’ve found as a parent that most of the newborn photos are when they are asleep, as that is when there is a moment to take photos, however this little girl showed off her big eyes really well.
I had made a few adjustments to the lighting setup, so that the flash wasn’t such a contrast to the ambient light. She didn’t flinch at all with the lights, and continued to make happy noises and stare around her in amazement. The parents brought along some favourite items, such as blankets, teddies and building blocks with her name on, and so they have some photos to remember her treasures – before they get well worn by the baby.
